5 x 1 minute snacks even a 3 year old could make

Kids love snacks! I estimated that between my 3 children, they will need about 500 snacks over the summer holidays! That’s a lot of snacks that I don’t intend making …! So, I have put together a list of very simple, healthy snacks that even a 3 year old could make!

These snacks are packed full of protein to keep your kids (and mine) tummies fuller for longer. I’ve steered away from ultra processed foods as much as possible, instead opting for simple whole foods that my kids like to eat.

These are snacks that only really need to be assembled and the kids should be able to do that themselves! No cooking required for these easy snacks.

5 x 1 minute snacks your kids can make

  1. apple slices and peanut butter. Give your kids a safe knife - let them chop their apple up and smear 100% natural peanut butter on the slices (or whatever shape they cut!). Top with some dark chocolate chips if you can be bothered.

  2. cheddar cheese, grapes and a couple of oatcakes or whatever crackers you have lying around. We love Nairn’s oatcakes in this house. Let them make sandwiches out of the cheese and oatcakes, using the grapes (or whatever fruit you in the fruit bowl) to add sweetness and juicyness!

  3. Greek yoghurt, berries or fruit and seeds - this is so simple. Let the kids chop the fruit - strawberries or raspberries are especially nice with this but bananas, pear, orange all work well. Blueberries can be a bit tangy but you could add a dollop of honey for sweetness. Let them scatter the seeds on top (or not - if they are seed haters…!)

  4. hummus and carrot sticks with fruit- we generally buy The Happy Pear hummus if we’re not making our own. Then the kids can prep the carrot sticks by peeling and chopping them. A snacktivity if you like! Cucumber or celery are great options as well. And some fruit on the side - orange segments, pear or berries.

  5. healthy trail mix - throw some nuts, popcorn, dried fruit and dark chocolate chips on the table and let them make their own trail mix. Or, and I know this is kinda cheating …but you could have this made up in advance and they can help themselves!

Which snacks will your kids choose?
